What has that to do with me? Everything. ![]() Harry Hart FBIS was once in the top 2% of earners and was described as the best international documentary film cameraman in the world by British and American producers. Appalled by the poverty and hardship he filmed, he put his West London property, income and inheritance into research into solving the most severe global problems, such as climate change, the oil crisis, world poverty, the exhaustion of fertilized land, territorial conflict, the biodiversity crisis and shrinking world resources. He was the principal founder of more than 30 years of research by a multi-disciplinary team of 20 to 30 professionals including eco-scientists. Their conclusion is that rapidly-multiplying microalgae - fed only on sun, diluted seawater and air - can reverse the greenhouse effect with stunning speed and, when applied correctly, provide vast, renewable resources for all the world's carbon-hungry needs. Despite the growing threat of global catastrophe and the dramatic nature of their hard-won solution, Hart, now 75, is due to close down this work in a matter of weeks due to exhaustion of funds, unless it can be brought to public attention. There is an increasingly imminent danger that this vital knowledge could be lost to the world forever. This situation reminds me of Kevin Carter's 1994 Pulitzer Prize winning photo of the vulture stalking a starving girl crawling towards a UN food camp during the Sudan Famine. Whereas Carter was driven to take his own life (as was Hart's colleague Bill Morton), Hart has given the remainder of his time on earth in a valid attempt to solve its problems. Morally we cannot ignore this.
